Positive nutrition and physical activity experiences in early childhood are the foundation for developing and practicing healthy behaviors which lead to better health, academic and social outcomes for children as they grow. In this session, learn best practice strategies designed to engage children in healthy eating, physical activity, and practicing healthy behaviors. Discover simple ways to integrate positive health messages into classroom routines and explore nutrition education and physical literacy activities that will keep young children on-task, having fun and on the path to a lifetime of health. This session will provide an overview and foundation for further learning about the CATCH EC Coordinated School Health Program and is not meant to replace training. Abby Rose is the Early Childhood Program Manager for CATCH Global Foundation where she is responsible for the development and dissemination of early childhood nutrition education, physical activity, and sun safety programs. In addition to her work at CATCH, Abby is a national trainer for SHAPE America’s Active Schools Physical Activity Leadership Initiative as well as a member of the SHAPE America Physical Activity Council. Previously, Abby was a School Wellness Specialist in the Office of Student Health and Wellness of Chicago Public Schools. Her main areas of focus were Comprehensive School Physical Activity Programming (CSPAP) and early childhood wellness. Abby was the founding PE teacher and Director of Health and Wellness at Namaste Charter School, a national model of school wellness as a vehicle for student success on the southwest side of Chicago. She holds an MSED from Northwestern University.
