I have worked in a high acuity healthcare facility in Cleveland, OH for 28 years with large ICUs. I have worked the ICUs the last 25 years. The description of morale dilemma and burnout during COVID was exactly what I felt like. It was actually difficult to listen to the presentation because of the flood of emotions it brought back. I thought I had healed since the COVID surge situations have subsided, but just listening to the precise descriptions brought those feelings right back.

Instructor demonstrated knowledge of the subject matter. Brought up triggers from the covid-19 days. It was constant movement of care and treatments, we were chasing our tales the entire time. I went through this with the Aids epidemic but I don't remember people being so out of joint over it. I feel social media hurt more than it helped. people had developed some strange beliefs in response to the covid-19 pandemic.

I had never realized why I hated to do eol care when family was in the room and did not mind it as much when no family was present was because I did not know what to say to the family and it was harder to control my emotions. but when family was not present I felt like I could be a comforting presence to the patient because I knew most times it was the right thing in my mind to do. This was clarification to me that I need more training in what to say to family members.

The professor used the term RT 'can move on'. As widow and a 30yr critical care therapist, I would submit that we 'move forward'. This better describes the grieving process and dealing with a withdrawal care is grieving. 'Move on' is more associated with forgetting. We are a sum of all our experiences so 'moving forward' is a better term.
