Question
How should Respiratory Therapists (RTs) and subject matter experts view their unique professional roles?
Answer
RTs or subject matter experts, period. It is our superpower. Carry yourself accordingly and value your reputation. It is everything. Guard that with your life. Know your standards and be passionate about them. I recommend you find that and master emotional intelligence because it gets you far. Start from where you are and assess for areas where you can improve. Do it on your own. You do not have to wait for somebody else to do that. Do not be discouraged while waiting for new opportunities; prepare for them in advance. Remember, I showed you areas for improvement. There is a whole list of them we went over that. It is ok if you do not get the position you went for. Prepare for them in advance. People say, "Oh, you are lucky." No, you are not lucky. You prepared for that opportunity in advance.
