Meet Continued member and social worker Suzette LaHaye Miller

Our story is as much about our members as it is about us.

Suzette LaHaye Miller, MSW, LCSW, joins the Continued family from Mamou, Louisiana. In addition to her full-time role as a school social work specialist, she also consults with a local association for disabled citizens and the Council on Aging and conducts adoptive home studies.

“The variety of topics offered through my membership to Continued is so vast. Continued is also super for those of us who live in rural communities with few options for earning continuing education hours without going out of town.”

What do you enjoy most about your work as a school-based licensed clinical social worker?

Suzette MillerI love working as a member of a multidisciplinary team in the school system to evaluate and identify children with special needs, including disabilities and talented and gifted learners.

Why are you passionate about your field?

Social work is a field that focuses on helping people in all aspects of life. The area I'm most passionate about is advocating for children with special needs and identifying the services they need to reach their potential. It is also important to me to educate parents about a child's disability with a focus on the relative strengths of the child and the health of the family.

What value does online learning hold for you?

The online accessibility—literally 24 hours a day—is unbelievably convenient. Continued is also an economical option to fulfill licensure requirements. I have included my co-workers in our group membership, which saves our employer travel expenses, especially with recent pandemic restrictions.

Continued is also super for those of us who live in rural communities with few options for earning continuing education hours without going out of town.

What impact has Continued had on your ability to advance your training or apply new skills to your area of practice?

The variety of topics offered through my membership to Continued is so vast. I can enhance my skills specific to school social work but can also increase my knowledge in any area of the field.

My membership with Continued allows me to access topics in my other areas of interest, including animal-assisted therapy, adoptions, eating disorders, and play therapy. The trainings are engaging, and I love that they are self-paced. I can start one day and finish later or share something with my co-workers and rewatch for clarification if needed.
