I was really looking forward to this course to challenge my own biases, but the content sounded to be more appropriate for general public who are particularly unaware of this topic. The content was too basic for social workers and I was surprised that ContinuED added this course. At one point, presenter seemed to be talking to the audience about racism assuming that they are white, but I am an immigrant from one of the Asian countries and felt like that the presenter herself may have bias.

Ms. Clervaud was engaging and I enjoyed her "active learning" style. The only reason I didn't rate the course as Excellent is due to the information required to answer the exam not being fully present in the lecture.

It emphasized the prevalence of implicit bias in our society and the ways it can be perceived, transmitted, and abused. Liked the examples and quizzes the instructor gave. I was surprised to see that my mind still automatically goes to some of the stereotypes I learned as a child, and then my brain would quickly correct the bias.

Although biases from a caucasian perspective was shared such as angry African Americans vs. Caucasians being perceived as passionate, assertive, etc. etc. It is worth noting that African Americans & other cultures perceive people, in general, who are not self-controlled, disrespectful, as uneducated, low socio economic level, and single with children based on their mannerisms/ behaviors, as well. If your Caucasian & a Social Worker, leader, or want respect this behavior would not garner that.

Addressing hidden biases can improve your relationship with your clients and lead to better outcomes.
