This series explores the relationship between trauma and SUD and provides guidance on evidence based treatment options.

- After this course, participants will be able to analyze the short and long-term effects of alcohol and psychoactive drugs on the body.
- After this course, participants will be able to consider typical roles that family members play in SUD-impacted families.
- After this course, participants will be able to recognize and evaluate the relationship between Trauma and Substance Use Disorders.
- After this course, participants will be able to identify the classification and use of most major psychiatric medications and describe the use of specific medications used in the treatment of addictions (MAT).

Dr. John Smith is the Director of Education and Training at Social Model Recovery Systems (SMRS). He is a Professor of Addiction Counseling at Mt. San Antonio College since 2000 and he has also been in Private Practice in California since 2000. Dr. Smith has over 40 years of experience working with mental health and addictions, and he is the author of “Co-occurring Substance Abuse and Mental Disorders: A Practitioner’s Guide” and he is the “Best-Selling” author of “The Authentic Man: A Guide to Happiness and Purpose”.
