It was clear through the whole presentation that Nikki very much is an expert and great advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and their clients. This course will be vital to social workers needing cultural competence in working with this community and having an intersectional view as well.

I wish there had been more slides so that I could more fully remember the information. For example, a slide with explanations on homonegativity, homophobia, and the others, etc, would have been effective.

This seemed to me more an ethics course rather than cultural competency course. My experience of the instructor's style of presentation appeared more a reading rather than interpersonal and so was not as engaging as it could have been.

I would have liked a video of the speaker and appropriate slides shown at the time she was speaking. I downloaded the slides but was uncertain where she was in her presentation as compared to the slides. She also had a number of statistics that would have been helpful to see on-screen.

There was a lot of information shared during this course, which is great, but without the transcripts, it would have been a lot to hold onto independently without taking extensive notes. It is great to have the transcripts to reflect back on if it is desired to further process all that was shared.

The use of common terms like "spouse" vs. "partner" was really enlightening. It does require some re-training, but using more terminology that is non-biased is important to set a tone of inclusivity.

The course provided an overview of issues relevant for work with LGBTQ+ individuals and communities, including some statistical findings on risks experienced. I appreciated the focus on practice efforts to improve organizational and cultural responsiveness to issues impacting persons and communities identified as LGBTQ+ as well as the intersectionality of many other factors increasing risks. I also appreciated anchoring the course content in social work ethical documents.
