Question
Can you recommend resources to help with disaster preparedness and planning for early childhood settings?
Answer
Two books that can be very helpful in preparing for disasters in early childhood settings include Disaster Planning and Preparedness in Early Childhood and School-Age Care Settings, by Charlotte Hendricks and Michele Pettibone, and Medical Emergencies in Early Childhood and School-Age Settings, by Charlotte Hendricks. In addition, the Emergency Preparedness Manual from Head Start/ECLKC is full of information, self-assessment questionnaires, checklists, and other resources. The Caring for Our Children National Health and Safety Performance Standards Guidelines for Early Care and Education Programs is another wonderful resource.
