How many CE Credits does Idaho require for counselors?

  • Professionals licensed by the Idaho Board of Professional Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists:

    • LPC, CPC, MFT, AMFT: 40 hours every 2 years. Licenses expire on a rolling basis.

      • The Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL) will continue transitioning from 1-year licenses to 2-year licenses based on birth year. For more details and to learn about how your renewal will be impacted, view the official announcement from DOPL.

  • Professionals certified by the Idaho Board of Alcohol/Drug Counselor Certification:

    • AADC, ADC, CPS: 40 hours every 2 years.
    • SUDA: 60 hours every 2 years.
    • CCS: 15 hours every 2 years.
    • PRC, P-PRC: 20 hours every 2 years.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Counseling?

  • Licensed Professional Counselors & Marriage and Family Therapists: Yes. The Idaho Board of Professional Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists Board accepts courses sponsored by an approved provider of professional associations such as the NBCC. Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Find courses offered for NBCC credit.

  • Addiction Counselors: Yes. The Idaho Board of Alcohol/Drug Counselor Certification (IBADCC) accepts courses by NAADAC approved providers. Continued is a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, #283836. Find courses approved by NAADAC.

Licensees are responsible for completing courses that align with the content requirements for their specific license.
