How many CE Credits does Idaho require for counselors?

• Professionals licensed by the Idaho Board of Professional Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists:

  • LPC, CPC, MFT, AMFT: 40 hours every 2 years. Licenses expire on a rolling basis.

    • The Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL) will continue transitioning from 1-year licenses to 2-year licenses based on birth year. For more details and to learn about how your renewal will be impacted, view the official announcement from DOPL.

• Professionals certified by the Idaho Board of Alcohol/Drug Counselor Certification:

  • AADC, ADC, CPS: 40 hours every 2 years.
  • SUDA: 60 hours every 2 years.
  • CCS: 15 hours every 2 years.
  • PRC, P-PRC: 20 hours every 2 years.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Counseling?

• Licensed Professional Counselors & Marriage and Family Therapists: Yes. The Idaho Board of Professional Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists Board accepts courses sponsored by an approved provider of professional associations such as the NBCC. Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Find courses offered for NBCC credit.

• Addiction Counselors: Yes. The Idaho Board of Alcohol/Drug Counselor Certification (IBADCC) accepts courses by NAADAC approved providers. Continued is a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, #283836. Find courses approved by NAADAC.

Licensees are responsible for completing courses that align with the content requirements for their specific license.

LPC, CPC, MFT, AMFT:

• There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be earned online.
• A minimum of 6 hours must be obtained in ethics. Continued offers ethics courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.
• 6 hours must be obtained in supervision every 5 years. Continued offers supervision courses that may meet the supervision course requirement.

Addiction Counselors:

• Education must be related to the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the tasks within the Performance Domains.

ADC:

• There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online; however:
  • The 4-hour ethics requirement must be taken in a live format. Continuedoffers live ethics courses periodically that may meet the ethics course requirement. Check back frequently for live course offerings.
  • All continuing education hours must be taken in a live or synchronous format. Continued offers live courses that may meet this requirement.

SUDA:

• There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online; however:

AADC, CCS, CPS:

• There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online; however:

  • 50% of continuing education hours must be taken in a live or synchronous format. Continued offers live courses that may meet this requirement.

P-PRC, PRC:

• There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online; however, the 6-hour ethics requirement must be taken in a live format.
