How many CE Credits does Wisconsin require for counselors?

• Professionals licensed by the Wisconsin Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling, and Social Work Examining Board:

  • LPC, LMFT: 30 hours every 2 years. Licenses expire on 2/28 of odd-numbered years.
     

• Professionals with credentials from the Wisconsin ​Substance Abuse Counselors Certification Review Committee:

  • SAC, PS: 30 hours every 2 years. Licenses expire on 2/28 of odd-numbered years.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Counseling?

• Licensed Professional Counselors/Marriage & Family Therapists/Addiction Counselors: Yes. The Wisconsin Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling, and Social Work Examining Board and the Substance Abuse Counselor Board accept courses by NBCC and NAADAC approved providers. Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Continued is a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, #283836. Licensed Professional Counselors and Licensed Marriage and Family Counselors:

• LPC, LMFT:

  • There is no limit to the amount of continuing education hours that may be obtained online.
  • 4 hours in ethics or professional boundaries must be obtained each renewal. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.

Addiction Counselors:

• SAC, PS:

  • Continuing education must be relevant to the practice of substance abuse counseling.
  • There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.
  • 4 hours of ethics and/or professional boundaries each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.
  • 4 hours of supervision of substance abuse counselors each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the supervision course requirement.
