How many CE Credits does North Dakota require for counselors?

• Professionals licensed by the North Dakota Board of Counselor Examiners:

  • LPC: 30 hours every 2 years.
  • LPCC: 40 hours every 2 years.
  • License expires biennially.

• Professionals licensed by the North Dakota Board of Addiction Counseling:

  • LAC: 40 hours every 2 years.
  • LCAC, LMAC: 40 hours every 2 years.
  • License expires on 12/31 of odd-numbered years.

• Professionals licensed by the North Dakota Marriage and Family Therapy Licensure Board:

  • LMFT: 40 hours every 2 years. License expires on 12/31 of odd-numbered years.
  • AMFT: 15 hours every 2 years. License expires based on the date of issuance.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Counseling?

• Licensed Professional Counselors: Yes. For professionals licensed through the North Dakota Board of Counselor Examiners, the Board accepts courses by NBCC approved providers. Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Find courses offered for NBCC credit.

• Addiction Counselors: Yes. The North Dakota Board of Addiction Counselor Examiners accepts courses by NAADAC approved providers. Continued is a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, #283836. Find courses approved by NAADAC.

• Marriage and Family Therapists: No. Continued is not currently approved by the North Dakota Marriage and Family Therapy Licensure Board to offer continuing education courses to licensed marriage and family therapists.

Licensees are responsible for completing courses that align with the content requirements for their specific license.

Licensed Professional Counselors:

  • A minimum of 15 hours must be obtained through in-person or live, interactive webinars. Continued offers live webinars to help meet this requirement. The remaining hours may be obtained through home-study. Continued offers home-study video, audio, and text courses.
  • 3 hours must be obtained in ethics for each renewal. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.

Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors:

• LPCC:

  • A minimum of 15 hours must be obtained through in-person or live, interactive webinars. Continued offers live webinars to help meet this requirement. The remaining hours may be obtained through home-study. Continued offers home-study video, audio, and text courses.
  • 3 hours must be obtained in ethics each renewal. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.
  • 10 hours must be obtained in clinical education hours each renewal. Continued offers courses that may meet the clinical course requirement.

Addiction Counselors:

• LAC, LCAC, LMAC:

  • Continuing education should be directly related to or supportive of addiction counseling practice.
  • There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online; however, the Board highly recommends you complete no more than 50% of submitted CEUs online.
  • 6 hours of ethics each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.
  • 3 hours of clinical supervision (if supervisor) each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the supervision course requirement.

CE Broker Reporting:

• Proof of required CE must be electronically submitted directly to CE Broker. Continued will report course completions to CE Broker for approved courses. You may also self-report to CE Broker. The Continued provider number for CE Broker is 50-29950.
