Tennessee social work license requirements

How many CE hours does Tennessee require for social workers?

• LBSW: 18 hours/2 years.

• LMSW: 24 hours/2 years.

• LAPSW/LCSW: 30 hours/2 years.

Licenses expire on a rolling basis every 2 years.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Social Work?

Yes. Courses on Continued may be used to meet continuing education requirements for social workers licensed in Tennessee.

• Licensees who hold more than one (1) category of licensure to practice social work must separately satisfy the continuing education requirements for each level of licensure.

LBSW:

• There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online; however, at least 6 of the 18 required hours must be through live interactive webinars. Continued offers live courses.
• 2 hours of suicide prevention once every four years. Continued offers courses that may meet the suicide prevention requirement.
• 6 hours of ethics each year. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics requirement.
• 1 hour specific to Tennessee Code Annotated §§ 63-23-101, et seq., and the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Board of Social Worker Licensure. Continued does not currently offer this course.

LMSW:

• There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online; however, at least 8 of the 24 required hours must be through live interactive webinars. Continued offers live courses.
• 2 hours of suicide prevention once every four years. Continued offers courses that may meet the suicide prevention requirement.
• 6 hours of ethics each year. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics requirement.
• 1 hour specific to Tennessee Code Annotated §§ 63-23-101, et seq., and the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Board of Social Worker Licensure. Continued does not currently offer this course.

LAPSW/LCSW:

• There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online; however, at least 10 of the 30 required hours must be through live interactive webinars. Continued offers live courses.

• 6 hours of ethics each year. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics requirement.
• 1 hour specific to Tennessee Code Annotated §§ 63-23-101, et seq., and the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Board of Social Worker Licensure. Continued does not currently offer this course.
