How many CE hours does Maryland require for social workers?

LBSW: 30 hours every 2 years.
LMSW/LCSW/LCSW-C: 40 hours every 2 years.

Licenses expire on 10/31 (depending on the year of issuance).
Can I take my continuing education through Continued Social Work?

Yes. Continued is an ASWB ACE provider, and the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners accepts courses approved by ASWB ACE.

For All License Types:

There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online; however, a portion of the required hours must be through (Category I) live interactive webinars, see detailed information below.
Category I Hours are our live (synchronous) courses.
Category II Hours are our courses that are not live (asynchronous).
The board requires a one-time attestation of completion of an implicit bias and structural racism training course approved by the Cultural and Linguistic Health Care Professional Competency Program after April 1, 2026. Licensees must take pre-approved courses from the list provided on the board's website.
3 hours of anti-oppressive social work practice content focusing on race, culture, or equity and include one or more of the following topics: Cultural Humility, Social Justice, Racial Equity, Implicit Bias or Anti-racism practices. Must be Category I earned through live interactive webinars. Search our cultural competence library for related topics.

LBSW:

3 hours of ethics each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics requirement.
15 of the required 30 hours must be through (Category I) live interactive webinars. Continued offers live courses.

LMSW:

3 hours of ethics each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics requirement.
20 of the required 40 hours must be through (Category I) live interactive webinars. Continued offers live courses.

LCSW/LCSW-C:

3 hours of ethics each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics requirement.
3 hours of supervision each renewal period if the licensee is a board-approved supervisor. Continued offers courses that may meet the supervision requirement.

Association of Social Work Boards ACE Provider

Continued, provider #1742, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 03/27/2024 – 03/27/2027.
