This course empowers behavioral health clinicians with the necessary skills and ethical competencies for delivering integrated, evidence-based addiction care to patients undergoing medication-assisted treatment (MAT). A focus on confidentiality, MAT and general ethics including HIPAA and CFR 42, and supervision standards are addressed. Participants will explore substance use disorders from a neuroscience perspective, develop counseling best practices within interdisciplinary MAT settings, and cover topics ranging from harm reduction strategies to documentation of medical necessity, aiming to enhance support for individuals managing addiction and dual diagnoses.

Ryan Kirk
PsyD, MSW HSPP
Dr. Ryan Kirk is a Licensed Psychologist and Director of Psychological Services for Meridian Health Services, working remotely from Denver, Colorado.
He has conducted trainings around continuous process improvement models targeting rapid improvement projects and whole-organization culture shifts. He has a background in specialized clinical interventions such as psychological and neuropsychological assessment, pediatric and family medicine, and a biofeedback certification for pain management. In his current role, Dr. Kirk oversees quality assurance for documentation and evidence-based clinical practices and drives integrated care initiatives to better serve vulnerable populations. His efforts center on developing real-time behavioral health consultation programs within primary care and addressing physical health needs during behavioral health visits.
Dr. Kirk holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Adler University and a Master’s in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis. An avid cyclist, snowboarder and guitarist, he brings a well-rounded perspective to his mental health leadership roles.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Katie Kirk, PsyD, LAC has worked in the behavioral health field for the past sixteen years. She has a master’s degree in Forensic Psychology and a doctorate in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) from the University of Denver. She has provided a broad spectrum of assessments, behavioral health interventions, and best practices to a wide realm of populations in many settings. Dr. Kirk has worked with forensic populations, substance abuse, end-of-life care in a correctional setting, severe and persistent mental illness, brain injury and spinal defects, residential care, law enforcement and public safety, and gender diversity. Her specializations have allowed her to give back through supervisory and teaching experiences to health providers nationwide. She has teaching experience, presenting experience, and has engaged in program development and collaborations to promote positive institutional change.
In Dr. Kirk’s previous work setting, she was tasked with disseminating highly technical information regarding transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals and gender-affirming services across teams throughout the US. Her role was to relay information digestible to clinical and medical professionals and the general population, to provide training across medical specialty departments, and to stay informed on best practices to continuously train her supervisees, team, and wider departments on quality care standards and gender equity.
She is currently the Group Managing Editor for Continued Behavioral Health, supporting the recruitment and development of continuing education material from highly trained professionals who help promote the education and training of those in the field of behavioral health.
