Dr. Mary Lehman Held is an Associate Professor and Director of the Nashville campus MSSW program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her research is focused on the health and well-being of Latinx immigrants in the US South, particularly as it relates to both resilience and hardships associated with the migration process. She engages Latinx community members and providers who serve Latinx clients in her research to strengthen knowledge regarding service needs and the capacity to meet these needs. This research agenda is informed by her prior social work practice experience with Latinx immigrants in the US and with youth in Central America. Dr. Held provides trainings on Latinx immigrant resilience and trauma to health and social service providers in order to increase the direct impact of her research with the communities she aims to serve.
