Transitional flow in HFJV offers several advantages, particularly in reducing lung injury and improving secretion clearance.

  • Reduced Turbulence: Transitional flow minimizes turbulent flow, which can push dead space and secretions further into the lungs, leading to complications. Instead, it creates a smoother airflow that gently ventilates the lungs.
  • Piercing Dead Space: The flow design of HFJV allows fresh gas to pierce through dead space effectively, enhancing the removal of carbon dioxide (CO2) and preventing the build-up of secretions.
  • Passive Exhalation: HFJV’s reliance on passive exhalation facilitates smoother and more natural exhalation, reducing the work of breathing and minimizing stress on delicate lung tissues.
