How many CE Hours does West Virginia require for psychologists?

• Psychologist: 20 hours every two years. License expires every two years based on the date of issuance.

• School Psychologist: 30 hours every three years. License expires every three years based on the date of issuance.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Psychology?

• Psychologists/School Psychologists: Yes, Continued is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The West Virginia Board of Examiners of Psychologists accepts courses offered by APA approved providers.

Licensed Psychologists:

• At least 10 of the 20 hours required must be from APA-approved providers. Continued is an approved continuing education sponsor by the American Psychological Association (APA).
• Licensees must complete at least 3 hours in ethics. Continued offers courses that may meet this requirement.
• Licensees must complete at least 2 hours in mental health conditions common to veterans and their family members. Continued offers courses that may meet this requirement.

Licensed School Psychologists:

• At least 15 of the 30 hours must be from APA or NASP-approved providers of continuing education. Continued is an approved continuing education sponsor by the American Psychological Association (APA).
• Courses should be directly related to the scope of practice in the category of licensure held.
• Licensees must complete at least 3 hours in ethics. Continued offers courses that may meet this requirement.
• School psychologists holding a credential from the West Virginia Department of Education should refer to the Department for information about professional development requirements.

Dually Licensed Psychologists:

• Dually licensed psychologists must obtain 3 hours per renewal period in their secondary area of practice, which will be included in the requirements for Licensed Psychologists.

Supervised Psychologists:

• Supervised psychologists must obtain 10 hours of continuing education per year.
• Licensees must complete at least 1.5 of the 10 hours in ethics. Continued offers courses that may meet this requirement.
