How many CE Hours does Virginia require for psychologists?

• Psychologist/Applied Psychologist/School Psychologist/School Psychologist-Limited: 14 hours annually. Licenses expire 6/30 annually.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Psychology?

Yes. Continued is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Virginia Board of Psychology accepts courses offered by providers approved by recognized psychological associations.

• Courses must be directly related to the scope of practice in the category of licensure held. Courses for clinical psychologists shall emphasize, but not be limited to the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients with moderate and severe mental disorders.
• Licensees must complete at least 6 hours in face-to-face or real-time interactive educational experiences. Continued offers live, interactive webinars that may be used to meet this requirement.
• At least 1.5 hours must be earned in courses that emphasize ethics, standards of practice, or laws governing the profession of psychology. Continued offers ethics courses that may meet this requirement.
• School Personnel holding credentials issued by the Virginia Department of Education should refer to the Department for information about continuing professional development requirements.
