How many CE Hours does Ohio require for psychologists?

  • Psychologist/School Psychologist/Certified Behavioral Analyst: 23 hours every two years, due by 8/31 of even-numbered years. Licenses expire every two years on 9/30 of even-numbered years.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Psychology?

  • Psychologists: Yes, Continued is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Ohio Board of Psychology accepts courses offered by APA approved providers for psychologist license renewal. You must comply with Ohio requirements to record continuing education with the Ohio Psychological Association.

  • School Psychologists: Some courses offered on Continued may fall within the scope of practice for school psychologists. Licensees must submit courses to the Ohio School Psychologists Association for review and approval.

  • Certified Behavioral Analysts: Behavioral analysts who do not hold an active certification as a board-certified behavior analyst may obtain continuing education from sponsors approved by the APA. Continued is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Licensees must comply with Ohio requirements to record continuing education with the Ohio Psychological Association.

Other Information

Psychologists:

  • Licensees are required to obtain a minimum of 4 CE hours in one or more of the following: Professional conduct; Ethics; The role of culture, ethnic identity, or both in the provision of psychological assessment, consultation, or psychological interventions, or a combination thereof. Continued offers courses in ethics and courses in Cultural Competence to meet this requirement
  • Licensees must comply with Board requirements to record continuing education with the Ohio Psychological Association.

School Psychologists:

  • Courses must be approved by and recorded with the Ohio School Psychologists Association (OSPA). Refer to the OSPA to learn more about mandatory continuing education requirements.
  • School psychologists holding a Pupil Services License from the Ohio Department of Education should refer to the Department for information about professional development requirements.

Certified Behavior Analysts:

  • Certified Ohio behavior analysts may maintain licensure by demonstrating active certification by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.
  • Certificate holders who do not demonstrate active certification as a board-certified behavior analyst may obtain CEUs through courses offered by sponsors approved by the American Psychological Association (APA).
  • Licensees must comply with Board requirements to record continuing education with the Ohio Psychological Association.

CE Broker Reporting:

  • Proof of required CE must be electronically submitted directly to CE Broker. Continued will report course completions to CE Broker for approved courses. You may also self-report to CE Broker. The Continued provider number for CE Broker is 50-29950.
