How many CE Hours does Maryland require for psychologists?

• Psychologist: 40 hours every 2 years.

• Psychologist Associate: 20 hours every 2 years.

License expires on 3/31 every 2 years of even-numbered years for license numbers ending in an even digit or 0. For licenses ending in odd numbers, they expire on 3/31 every 2 years of odd numbered years.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Psychology?

Yes. Continued is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists accepts courses offered by APA approved providers for license renewal.

• The Maryland Board of Psychologist Examiners allows a maximum of 20 continuing education (CE) hours for psychologists, or a maximum of 10 CE hours for psychological associates, to be obtained from independent study. On Continued this includes video, audio, and text courses.
• If a psychologist is supervising a Psychological Associate during the reporting period, a minimum of 3 CE hours in activities designed to enhance competence in the provision of clinical supervision is required. Continued offers courses that may meet this requirement.
• Licensees are required to obtain a minimum of 3 CE hours in laws pertaining to the practice of psychology; ethics and professional conduct in the practice of psychology; or managing risks associated with the practice of psychology. Continued offers courses that may meet this requirement.
• Licensees are required to obtain a minimum of 3 CE hours in the provision of psychological services to culturally diverse populations. Continued offers courses that may meet this requirement.
• The board requires a one-time attestation of completion of an implicit bias and structural racism training course approved by the Cultural and Linguistic Health Care Professional Competency Program after April 1, 2026. Licensees must take pre-approved courses from the list provided on the board's website.
