How many CE Hours does Iowa require for psychologists?

  • Psychologist: 
    • 40 hours every 2 years 
    • License expires every 2 years on 6/30 of even numbered years

Can I use this site to earn my continuing education hours?

  • Yes, we are approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Iowa Board of Behavioral Health Professionals accepts courses offered by APA approved providers for psychologist license renewal.

Other Information

  • The Iowa Board of Behavioral Health Professionals requires licensees to obtain 6 continuing education (CE) hours in Iowa mental health laws and regulations or risk management for their second licensure renewal. Those persons licensed for the first time shall not be required to complete continuing education as a prerequisite for the first renewal of their licenses. Continuing education hours acquired anytime from the initial licensing until the second license renewal may be used.
  • Following a licensee's second renewal, licensees are required to obtain 6 CE hours in ethical issues, federal mental health laws and regulations, or risk management.
  • Psychologists practicing in Iowa are required by law to complete mandatory reporter training for child and/or dependent adult abuse.
