How many CE Hours does Illinois require for psychologists?

  • Psychologist: 
    • 24 hours per year
    • License expires on 9/30 of even-numbered years
  • Prescribing Psychologist/Prescribing Psychologist Controlled Substance/Prescribing Psychologist Clinical Rotation Program: 
    • 24 hours per year in addition to 20 hours of continuing education in pharmacology
    • License expires on 9/30 of even-numbered years

Can I use this site to earn my continuing education hours?

  • Yes, we are approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Illinois Board of Clinical Psychology accepts courses offered by APA approved providers.

Other Information

Psychologist:

  • Licensees are required to obtain a minimum of 3 continuing education (CE) hours in the ethical practice of psychology each renewal period. 
  • Licensees are required to obtain a minimum of 3 CE hours in diversity training and 1 CE hour in cultural competency each renewal period. 
  • Licensees are required to obtain a minimum of 1 CE hour in implicit bias awareness training each renewal period. 
  • Licensees are required to obtain a minimum of 1 CE hour, once every 6 years, in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of individuals with cognitive impairments, including but not limited to Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. 
  • Licensees are required to obtain a minimum of 1 CE hour in the topic of sexual harassment prevention training each renewal period. 

Prescribing Psychologist/Prescribing Psychologist Controlled Substance/Prescribing Psychologist Clinical Rotation Program:

  • In addition to the requirements listed above for psychologists, licensees must obtain an additional 20 hours of continuing education per year in pharmacology. We do not currently offer courses that meet this requirement. Please check back again in the near future.
