How many CE Credits does West Virginia require for counselors?

Professionals licensed by the West Virginia Board of Examiners in Counseling:
- LPC, LMFT: 35 hours every 2 years. Licenses expire on 6/30 annually, though CEUs are due biennially, in odd years for LPC licensees and even years for LMFT licensees.
Professionals with credentials from the West Virginia Certification Board for Addiction & Prevention Professionals:
- ADC, AADC, CCJP, PS, CS: 40 hours every 2 years.
- PRSS: 20 hours every 2 years.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Counseling?

Licensed Professional Counselors and Marriage & Family Therapists: Yes. For professionals licensed through the West Virginia Board of Examiners in Counseling, the board accepts courses by NBCC approved providers. Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Find courses offered for NBCC credit.
Addiction Counselors: Yes. The West Virginia Certification Board for Addiction & Prevention Professionals accepts courses by NAADAC approved providers. Continued is a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, #283836. Find courses approved by NAADAC.

Licensees are responsible for completing courses that align with the content requirements for their specific license.

Other Information

Licensed Professional Counselors & Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists:

LPC, LMFT:
- A maximum of 20 hours may be obtained through home-study courses. Courses on Continued are considered home-study courses.
- 3 hours in ethics must be obtained each renewal. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.
- 2 hours pertaining to veterans and/or the family of veterans must be obtained each renewal. Continued offers courses that may meet the veterans course requirement.
- If an ALPS supervisor, 3 hours in clinical supervision must be obtained each renewal. Continued offers courses that may meet the supervision course requirement.

Addiction Counselors:

There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.
ADC, AADC, CCJP:
- 6 hours of addiction specific ethics each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.
PS:
- 6 hours of addiction or prevention-specific (must be in title) ethics each renewal period.
  - Continued offers courses that may meet the addiction specific ethics course requirement.
  - Continued offers courses that may meet the prevention-specific to ethics course requirement.
CS:
- 6 hours of supervision each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the supervision course requirement.
PRSS:
- 6 hours of NAADAC/NCC AP National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS) specific ethics each renewal period. Continued does not currently offer this content.

CE Broker Reporting:

Proof of required CE must be electronically submitted directly to CE Broker. Continued will report course completions to CE Broker for approved courses. You may also self-report to CE Broker. The Continued provider number for CE Broker is 50-29950.

Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Continued is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
