How many CE Credits does Utah require for counselors?

  • Professionals licensed by the Utah Mental Health Counseling Board:

    • CMHC, MFT: 40 hours every 2 years. Licenses expire on 9/30 of even-numbered years.

  • Professionals licensed by the Utah Substance Use Disorder Counseling Board:

    • SUDC, ASUDC: 40 hours every 2 years. Licenses expire on 5/31 of odd-numbered years.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Counseling?

  • Clinical Mental Health Counselors/Marriage & Family Therapists/Addiction Counselors: Yes. The Utah Division of Professional Licensing in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and in Substance Use Disorder Counseling accepts courses approved by a professional association in mental health therapy. Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Continued is a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, #283836. Find courses offered for NBCC credit or courses approved by NAADAC.

Licensees are responsible for completing courses that align with the content requirements for their specific license.
