How many CE Credits does Oregon require for counselors?

Professionals licensed by the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists:
- LPC and LMFT: 40 hours every 2 years. Licenses expire biennially in even-numbered years.
Professionals with credentials from the Mental Health and Addictions Counselor Board of Oregon:
- CADC I, CADC II, CADC III: 40 hours every 2 years. Licenses expire biennially.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Counseling?

Licensed Professional Counselors and Marriage & Family Therapists:Yes. For professionals licensed through the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists, the board accepts courses by NBCC approved providers. Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Find courses offered for NBCC credit.
Addiction Counselors: Yes. The Mental Health and Addiction Counselors Board of Oregon (MHACBO) accepts courses by NAADAC-approved providers. Continued is a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, #283836. Find courses approved by NAADAC.

Licensees are responsible for completing courses that align with the content requirements for their specific license.

Other Information

Licensed Professional Counselors and Licensed Marriage and Family Counselors:

There is no limit to the amount of continuing education hours that can be obtained online.
6 hours in professional ethics and/or Oregon State laws and regulations must be obtained each renewal. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.
4 hours in cultural competency must be obtained each renewal. Continued offers courses that may meet the cultural competence course requirement.
2 hours in suicide risk assessment, treatment, and management must be obtained each renewal. Continued offers courses that may meet the suicide course requirement.
If a supervisor, licensees must obtain 3 hours in supervision-related training each renewal. Continued offers courses that may meet the supervision course requirement.

Addiction Counselors (CADC I, CADC II, CADC III):

There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.
6 hours of ethics each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.
2 hours of suicide prevention each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the suicide prevention course requirement.
A minimum of 20 hours of Category I: Alcohol & Drug specific content each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the alcohol and drug course requirement.
