How many CE Credits does Nebraska require for counselors?

Professionals licensed or certified by the Nebraska Board of Mental Health and Social Work Practice:
- Professional Counselor (PC), Marriage & Family Therapist (MFT), Independent Mental Health Practitioner (IMHP), Mental Health Practitioner (MHP): 32 hours every 2 years. Credentials expire on 9/1 of even-numbered years.
Professionals regulated by the Nebraska Board of Alcohol and Drug Counseling:
- ADC: 40 hours every 2 years. Credential expires on 9/1 even-numbered years.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Counseling?

Licensed Professional Counselors, Marriage & Family Therapists, and Mental Health Practitioners: Yes. For professionals licensed through the Nebraska Board of Mental Health and Social Work Practice, the Board accepts courses by NBCC approved providers. Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Find courses offered for NBCC credit.
Addiction Counselors: Yes. The Nebraska Alcohol and Drug Counselor Board accepts courses by NAADAC approved providers. Continued is a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, #283836. Find courses approved by NAADAC.

Licensees are responsible for completing courses that align with the content requirements for their specific license.

Other Information

Licensed Professional Counselors (PC, MFT, MHP):

There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.
4 hours must be obtained in ethics each renewal. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.

Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioners (IMHP):

There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.
4 hours must be obtained in ethics each renewal. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.
6 hours must be obtained in CE credits relating to diagnosis and treatment of major mental disorders. Continued offers courses that may meet the diagnosis and treatment course requirement.

Addiction Counselors (ADC):

There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.
20 hours specific to alcohol and other drugs each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the alcohol and drug specific course requirement.

National Board for Certified Counselors Approved Continuing Education Provider

Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Continued is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
