How many CE Credits does Montana require for counselors?

Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC), Certified Behavioral Health Peer Support Specialist (CBHPSS): 20 hours every year. Licenses expire on 12/31 annually for LCPC, LMFT, and CBHPSS, and on 6/30 annually for LAC.
Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor Candidate (LCPCC), Licensed Addiction Counselor Candidate (LACC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate (LMFTC): Continuing education is not required. Licenses expire on 12/31 annually for LCPCC and LMFTC, and on 6/30 annually for LACC.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Counseling?

Licensed Professional Counselors, Marriage & Family Therapists, Behavioral Health Peer Support, and Addiction Counselors: Yes. Courses on Continued may be used to meet continuing education requirements for professionals licensed through the Montana Board of Behavioral Health. Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Continued is a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, #283836. Find courses offered for NBCC credit or courses approved by NAADAC.

Licensees are responsible for completing courses that align with the content requirements for their specific license.

Other Information

Licensed Professional Counselors/Licensed Marriage and Family Counselors/Addiction Counselors (LCPC, LMFT, LAC, LACC, CBHPSS):

Continuing education should directly relate to the licensee's scope of practice.
There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.
2 hours of suicide prevention each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the suicide prevention course requirement.

National Board for Certified Counselors Approved Continuing Education Provider

Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Continued is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
