How many CE Credits does Mississippi require for counselors?
Professionals licensed by the Mississippi State Board of Examiners for Licensed Professional Counselors:
- LPC, LPC-S: 24 hours every 2 years.
- P-LPC: 6 hours every 2 years.
- Licenses expire every 2 years on 6/30.
Professionals certified by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health:
- CAT, LCAT: 30 hours every 2 years (with 15 hours required per year). Licenses expire biennially on 6/30.
Professionals certified by the Mississippi Association of Addiction Professionals:
- CADC, CADC I, CADC II, CAADC, CIC: 40 hours every 2 years.
- CCS: 6 hours every 2 years.
Professionals licensed by the Mississippi Board of Examiners for Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists:
- LMFT: 24 hours every 2 years. License expires every 2 years based on the date of issuance.
- LMFTA: No continuing education requirements are required. License expires every 2 years on 9/30 based on the year of issuance.
Can I take my continuing education through Continued Counseling?
Licensed Professional Counselors: Yes. The Mississippi State Board of Examiners for Licensed Professional Counselors accepts courses sponsored by an approved provider of professional associations such as the NBCC. Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Find courses offered for NBCC credit.
Addiction Counselors:
- For Addiction Professionals with credentials from the Mississippi Association of Addiction Professionals (MSAAP), the Association accepts courses by NAADAC approved providers. Continued is a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, #283836. Find Courses offered for NAADAC credit.
- For Addiction Professionals with credentials by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health (DMH), the department only approves continuing education providers who are part of the state mental health system. Continued is not approved by the DMH; however, individuals who hold a DMH professional credential administered through the DMH Division of Professional Licensure and Certification (PLACE) have the option of "post approval" of CE credit for activities/training as determined by the DMH Division of PLACE and/or the DMH PLACE Review Board. With this information, the licensee can take courses from Continued using the "post approval" process, if desired.
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists: No. Continued is not currently approved by the Mississippi Board of Examiners for Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists to offer continuing education courses to licensed marriage and family therapists.
Licensees are responsible for completing courses that align with the content requirements for their specific license.
