How many CE Credits does Minnesota require for counselors?

Professionals licensed by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC): 40 hours of continuing education are required every 2 years, but licenses expire annually based on the date of issuance.
Professionals licensed by the Minnesota Board of Marriage and Family Therapy:
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT): 40 hours of continuing education are required every 2 years on 12/31 of odd years. License expires annually on 12/31.
- Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT): No continuing education requirements. License expires annually on 1/31 or 6/30.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Counseling?

Licensed Professional Counselors & Addiction Counselors: Yes. For professionals licensed through the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy, the Board accepts courses by NBCC and NAADAC approved providers. Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Continued is a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, #283836. Find courses offered for NBCC credit or courses approved by NAADAC.
Marriage & Family Therapists: No. Continued is not currently approved by the Minnesota Board of Marriage and Family Therapy to offer continuing education courses to licensed marriage and family therapists.

Licensees are responsible for completing courses that align with the content requirements for their specific license.

Other Information

Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC, LPCC):

There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.

Addiction Counselors (LADC):

Licensees must take courses that directly relate to the practice of alcohol and drug counseling. Continued offers alcohol and drug counseling specific topics.
There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.
3 hours of ethics each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.
9 hours of diversity each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the diversity course requirement.

National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors

Continued is a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, #283836. Continued is responsible for all aspects of the programming.

National Board for Certified Counselors Approved Continuing Education Provider

Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Continued is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
