How many CE Credits does Maine require for counselors?

Professionals licensed by the Maine Board of Counseling Professionals:
- Professional Counselor (PC), Clinical Professional Counselor (CPC), Conditional Clinical Professional Counselor (CCPC), Pastoral Counselor, Marriage & Family Therapist (MFT): 55 hours every 2 years. Licenses expire every 2 years based on the date of issuance.
Professionals licensed by the Board of Alcohol & Drug Counselors:
- ADC Aid: 12 hours every 2 years.
- CADC: 18 hours every 2 years.
- LADC: 25 hours every 2 years.
- CCS: 37 hours every 2 years. (LADCs who are also certified clinical supervisors (CCS) need to complete 37 contact hours in total)
- Licenses expire on 11/30 of odd-numbered years.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Counseling?

Licensed Professional Counselors & Marriage and Family Therapists: Yes. Courses on Continued may be used for continuing education requirements for counselors licensed through the Maine Board of Counseling Professionals Licensure.
Addiction Counselors: Yes. The Maine Board of Alcohol & Drug Counselors accepts courses by NAADAC approved providers. Continued is a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, #283836. Find courses approved by NAADAC.

Licensees are responsible for completing courses that align with the content requirements for their specific license.

Other Information

Clinical Professional Counselors (CPC, CCPC):

There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.
4 hours must be obtained in ethics. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.
12 hours must be obtained in domestic violence. This is a one-time requirement. Continued offers courses that may meet the domestic violence course requirement.

Marriage and Family Counselors, Professional Counselors & Pastoral Counselors:

There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.
4 hours must be obtained in ethics. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics requirement.

Addiction Counselors (ADC Aid, CADC, LADC, CCS):

Continuing professional education contact hours must directly relate to the practice of alcohol and drug counseling or, in the case of certified clinical supervisors, to the clinical supervision of alcohol and drug counselors and counseling aides.
There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online; however, there is a limit of 20 hours that can be completed through self-study (asynchronous) courses. The remaining hours can be completed through live (synchronous) webinars.

National Board for Certified Counselors Approved Continuing Education Provider

Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Continued is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
