How many CE Credits does Louisiana require for counselors?

  • Professionals licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Licensed Professional Counselors:

    • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC): 40 hours every 2 years. License expires on 6/30 biennially.
    • Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT): 40 hours every 2 years. License expires on 12/31 biennially.
    • Provisional Licensed Professional Counselors (PLPC): 20 hours every 2 years. License expires on 10/31 biennially.
    • Provisional Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (PLMFT): 20 hours every 2 years. License expires on 10/31 biennially.
  • Professionals Licensed by the Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority in Louisiana:

    • LAC, RAC, CAC: 48 hours every 2 years.
    • CCS: 14 hours every 2 years.
    • ATA: 6 hours per year.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Counseling?

  • Licensed Professional Counselors: Yes. The Louisiana State Board of Licensed Professional Counselors accepts courses by NBCC. Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Find courses offered for NBCC credit.

  • Marriage & Family Therapists: No. Continued is not currently approved by the Louisiana State Board of Licensed Professional Counselors to offer continuing education courses to licensed marriage and family therapists.

  • Addiction Counselors: For Addiction Professionals with credentials from the Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority (ADRA), the board approves continuing education providers. Continued does not currently offer courses approved by ADRA. However, individuals can take courses approved by NAADAC and pay an approval fee to the ADRA. Continued offers courses approved by NAADAC, but please note that if you take these courses, you will be responsible for paying a fee for approval to ADRA.

Licensees are responsible for completing courses that align with the content requirements for their specific license.

  • Continued does not currently offer courses approved by ADRA. However, individuals can take courses approved by NAADAC and pay an approval fee to the ADRA. Continued offers courses approved by NAADAC, but please note that if you take these courses, you will be responsible for paying a fee for approval to ADRA.

  • LAC, RAC, CAC:
    • 6 hours must be obtained in ethics.
    • 42 hours must be obtained in substance abuse. Substance abuse education hours are defined as only those hours obtained from courses/workshops/seminars that have the actual words “substance abuse,” “addiction,” or “drug abuse” in the title of the course.
  • CCS:
    • 6 hours must be obtained in ethics.
    • 8 hours must be obtained in supervision.
  • ATA:
    • 6 hours must be obtained in ethics.
