How many CE Credits does Kansas require for counselors?

• Professionals licensed by the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board:

  • Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC), Licensed Master's Addiction Counselor (LMAC), Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor (LCAC): 30 hours every 2 years. Licenses expire biennially based on the date of issuance.

  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) & Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist (LCMFT): 40 hours every 2 years. Licenses expire biennially based on the date of issuance.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Counseling?

• Licensed Professional Counselors/Addiction Counselors: Yes. Courses on Continued may be used for continuing education requirements for Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, and Addiction Professionals licensed by the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board.

Licensees are responsible for completing courses that align with the content requirements for their specific license.

LCPC/LPC:

• There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.
• 3 hours of ethics each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.
• 3 hours of diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet course requirements on diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders.

LMFT/LCMFT:

• There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.
• 3 hours of ethics each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.
• 3 hours of diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet course requirements on diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders.
• If a supervisor, 3 hours of supervision each renewal period; 1 hour must be on ethics in supervision. Continued offers courses that may meet the supervision requirement.

Addiction Counselors:

• Some of the continuing education for other BSRB licenses may not be applicable for addiction counseling. If you are audited and you submit continuing education for addiction counseling continuing education that does not appear to be clearly related you will be asked to provide an explanation showing how the course relates to the enhancement of an addiction counselor’s practice, values, ethics, skills, or knowledge.
• There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.

• LAC:

  • 3 hours of ethics each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.

• LMAC/LCAC:

  • 3 hours of ethics each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.
  • 6 hours of diagnosis and treatment for substance use disorders/mental health each renewal period:
  • Continued offers courses that may meet the diagnosis and treatment of substance use disorders continuing education requirement.
  • Continued offers courses that may meet the course requirements on diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders continuing education requirement.

CE Broker Reporting: 

• Proof of required CE must be electronically submitted directly to CE Broker. Continued will report course completions to CE Broker for approved courses. You may also self-report to CE Broker. The Continued provider number for CE Broker is 50-29950.
