How many CE Credits does Delaware require for counselors?

• Professionals licensed by the Delaware Board of Mental Health and Chemical Dependency Professionals:

  • Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health (LPCMH), Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), and Licensed Chemical Dependency Professional (LCDP): 40 hours every 2 years. License expires 9/30 on even numbered years.
  • Licensed Associate Counselor of Mental Health (LACMH): No CE required. License expires every 2 years based on date issued.

• Alcohol and Drug Counselors certified by the Delaware Certification Board:

  • CADC, CAADC, CCDP, CCDPD, CPS: 40 hours every 2 years.
  • CFSP: 30 hours every 2 years.
  • CPRS: 20 hours every 2 years.
  • CSPS: 12 hours every 2 years.
  • CCS: 6 hours relevant to clinical supervision.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Counseling?

• Licensed Professional Counselors/ Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists/ Addiction Counselors: Yes. The Delaware Board of Mental Health and Chemical Dependency Professionals accepts courses by providers approved by national professional licensing or certification boards. Continued is a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, #283836. Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP#7484. Find courses offered for NBCC credit, or courses approved by NAADAC.

• The Delaware Certification Board accepts courses by NAADAC approved providers. Continued is a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, #283836. Find courses approved by NAADAC.

Licensees are responsible for completing courses that align with the content requirements for their specific license.

For professionals credentialed by the Delaware Board of Mental Health and Chemical Dependency Board (LPCMH, LMFT, LCDP):

• There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be earned online.
• 3 hours of cultural competence each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the cultural competence course requirement.
• 3 hours of ethics each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.

For professionals credentialed by the Delaware Certification Board:

• There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be earned online.

• CADC, CAADC: 

  • 40 hours relevant to substance use, including 3 hours in ethics each renewal period.

  • Continued offers courses that may meet the substance use requirement.

  • Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.

• CCDP, CCDPD: 

  • 40 hours relevant to co-occurring disorders, including 3 hours in ethics each renewal period.

• CPS: 

  • 40 hours relevant to prevention, including 3 hours in ethics each renewal period.

• CFSP: 

  • 30 hours relevant to family peer support. Continued offers courses that may meet the family peer support requirement.

• CPRS: 

  • 20 hours relevant to peer recovery, including 6 hours in ethics each renewal period.

  • Continued does not currently offer courses relevant to peer recovery.

  • Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.

• CSPS: 

  • 12-hour State of Delaware standardized peer supervisor training- if not previously taken OR 12 hours relevant to peer recovery.

  • Continued does not currently offer courses relevant to peer recovery.

• CCS: 

  • 6 hours of clinical supervision each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the supervision course requirement.
