How many CE Credits does Connecticut require for counselors?

• Professionals licensed by the Connecticut State Department of Public Health Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT): 15 hours per year. Licenses expire annually on the last day of the licensee's birth month.

• Alcohol and Drug Counselors certified by the Connecticut State Department of Public Health (CAC, LADC): 20 hours per year.

• Addiction Counselors certified by the Connecticut Certification Board (CCB):

  • AADC, CAC, CCJP, CCDP/D, SCCD, CPS: 20 hours per year.
  • CRRA, SCPG, CPRS: 10 hours per year.
  • SCSA, MATS, CARC: 6 hours per year.
  • CCS, SCCS: 3 hours per year.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued Counseling?

• Licensed Professional Counselors/ Marriage & Family Therapists: Yes. The Connecticut State Department of Health accepts courses by NBCC approved providers. Continued has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7484. Find courses offered for NBCC credit.

• Addiction Counselors: Yes. For Certified or Licensed Addiction Counselors credentialed by the Connecticut State Department of Public Health or the Connecticut Certification Board (CCB), the boards accept courses by CCB approved providers. Licensees are responsible for completing courses that align with the content requirements for their specific license.

Licensed Professional Counselors: (LPC, LMFT):

• There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.
• 3 hours must be obtained in professional ethics. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.
• 2 hours related to mental health conditions common to veterans and family members of veterans once every six years. Continued offers courses that may meet the veterans mental health conditions course requirement.
• 1 hour must be obtained in cultural competency. Continued offers courses that may meet the cultural competency requirement.

Addiction Counselors:

• For professionals credentialed by the Connecticut State Department of Public Health (CAC, LADC):

  • There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.
  • 1 hour of cultural competence each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the cultural competence course requirement.
  • 2 hours related to mental health conditions common to veterans and family members of veterans once every six years. Continued offers courses that may meet the veterans mental health conditions course requirement.

• For professionals credentialed by the Connecticut Certification Board (CCB):

  • Content taken must be relevant to the scope of practice of the credential held.
  • There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.

    • CAC, SCSA, CCDP/D, SCCD, SCPG, CPS: 

      • 1 hour of ethics each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.

    • AADC, CRRA: 

      • 2 hours of ethics each renewal period. Continued offers courses that may meet the ethics course requirement.

    • CPRS:

    • CCJP:
