How many CE Credits does Colorado require for counselors?

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC): 40 hours every 2 years. License expires 8/31 odd-numbered years.

  • Professionals Licensed by the Colorado State Board of Addiction Counselor Examiners (CAT, CAS, LAC): 40 hours every 2 years. License expires 8/31 odd-numbered years.

  • Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT): 40 hours every 2 years. License expires on 8/31 in odd-numbered years.

Can I take my continuing education through Continued counseling?

  • Licensed Professional Counselors: Yes. Courses on Continued may be used for Professional Development Hours (PDH) requirements for Professional Counselors licensed by the Colorado State Board of Licensed Professional Counselors Examiners.

  • Addiction Counselors: Yes. Courses on Continued may be used for Professional Development Hours (PDH) requirements for Certified and Licensed Addiction Counselors with credentials from the Colorado State Board of Addiction Counselor Examiners.

  • Marriage and Family Therapist: Yes. Courses on Continued may be used for Professional Development Hours (PDH) requirements for Marriage and Family Therapists licensed by the Colorado State Board of Marriage and Family Therapist Examiners.

Licensees are responsible for completing courses that align with the content requirements for their specific license.

Licensed Professional Counselors:

  • There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.
  • Please note that no more than 20 Professional Development Hours (PDH) can be credited in a single PDA category during a 2-year license period. Courses on Continued fall under the category of "Coursework" as defined by the CO state board.

Addiction Counselors (CAT, CAS, LAC):

  • There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours that can be completed online.
